By analyzing data from the Census, Esri, and other sources, Livability.com determined that Gainesville is one of the top 10 best college towns in 2015. Gainesville provides a supportive place for students to thrive both academically and socially, and the presence of the University of Florida attracts benefits for the entire community.
“Gainesville has the resources students need to create and map out a successful career pathway, whether their ultimate goal is employment or entrepreneurship,” said Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce Interim President CEO, Susan Davenport. “Living in a college town allows companies and residents to tap into the innovation and economic activity that education institutions provide, and the creative energy that students bring.”
For businesses, Gainesville’s ability to retain the student population even after graduation provides them with a strong, educated employee base. In recent years, Gainesville’s Chamber of Commerce have increased their efforts to retain graduates by creating a culture that fosters entrepreneurship and caters to young professionals with the availability of rental housing and affordability.
